The Gateway WordPress theme is a new freemium theme by Rescue Themes that’s gaining traction quickly. Effective use of the customizer sets it apart from the competition – allowing you to customize it quickly while live previewing your content.

While it would be a solid theme without offering it, paid upgrade nags for some of the features irks some people, but shouldn’t be the sole reason to turn this option down.

Pros

• The large header image, and sticky navigation adds a touch of modern.
• Full-width templates is a nice touch – for those pages where you don’t want the sidebar.

Cons

• Freemium upgrades for some of the more advanced features.
• Sparse documentation means you’ll need to be a tinkerer. It’s not difficult, but new users might feel a steep learning curve.
